Flexibility Training
Flexibility training or “stretching” as many of us know it, tends to be one of those aspects of our workout that we all tend leave out. I am going to discuss the potential hazards of not including flexibility into your workout regimen, the benefits of stretching and how to integrate flexibility into your workout routine.
We all have numerous muscle imbalances within our body. This could be due to various factors such as prolonged sitting which is required for our jobs and our increasingly sedentary lifestyles. These muscle imbalances that occur can cause many issues with posture and muscle balances throughout the body. Over time these concerns can lead to improper movement and ultimately injury.
Flexibility training can offer many benefits which include correcting muscle imbalances, improving the function of your joints, and improving your overall body function. When you implement flexibility training into your regimen, you improve your muscles range of motion and the overall health of your body.
Depending on which school of thought or exercise theory you follow, there are various ways which one could go about adding flexibility into your lifestyle. The technique which we use most at The Fit Style is static stretching. This involves taking a selected muscle to the point of comfortable tension and holding the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. This should be repeated for a total of two to three sets. Applying this technique will allow your muscle to relax and provide better elongation of your muscle tissues.
On our website we offer a downloadable total body stretching routine which you can follow in order to increase your personal flexibility. Pay special attention to those muscle groups that feel tight and perhaps cause discomfort. Flexibility is a great way to improve your body function as well as taking a holistic approach towards making fitness your lifestyle.
